June 10th
Well, with a mere 17 days to go before our big trip to Disney, I realized that I’m going to be spending the majority of the trip in a bathing suit and I’d better get cracking on losing that (shall we say) ‘insulation’ from the wintertime! So, I’ve started running every morning after I drop the boys off at school.
Yeah, that's right, I’m doing what I always swore that I’d NEVER do! I always thought that people who ran were full of themselves. I mean, 'cmon: they have their special running outfits, their special running shoes, special running baseball caps that are made of some sort of fabric that doesn’t make you sweat…really? How elite can you get?
But my own pretentiousness faltered and crumbled when Paul, (who is an avid runner himself, and has been for years) came home and surprised me with the CUTEST running outfit just for me! (And oh yes, I’m aware of how easily my values sway – I don’t think I’d hold up too well under any sort of interrogation!)
So out I go, every day like clockwork, in my cute little running outfit (sweat-free hat included). And I’m up to 3 km now – of which I’m pretty proud, especially since a lot of it is uphill! ‘Course, there are times when I have to lean against a tree until the gagging subsides!
And now I've noticed that I’m quickly becoming obsessive about running. I want to stress that it's NOT, in fact for my good health, or for the fact that it’s amazing for my cardiovascular system. Nope. It’s about Vanity, pure and simple.
I realized that a line in one of my all time favourite movies, "American Beauty", is even funnier now because it TOTALLY pertains to me:
Lester Burnham: I figured you guys might be able to give me some pointers. I need to shape up. Fast.
Jim Olmeyer: Are you just looking to lose weight, or do you want increased strength and flexibility as well?
Lester Burnham: I want to look good naked!
And really, am I alone in this??
There I was, lying in bed pretending to sleep, but couldn’t because Paul keeps snoring (even though he’s apparently “not-even-asleep-yet-so-stop-kicking!”) and so, I got to thinking about MakesCents.
And then it hit me! I’ve been doing this whole Blog-thing all wrong! A blog is supposed to be a place for me to just chat and to say what’s on my mind. How boring is it to go to a blog and be inundated with more information when really, if you wanted to learn more about a product, you’d just Google it, wouldn’t you?
So, here I am, in my jammies and a cup of warm milk, and thought that I’d just chat, and let you know what’s going on in our lives right now!
At the moment, we are having a big countdown for July 1st because we are off to Disney World! Our two boys (ages 9 & 5) play the violin and their violin class was chosen to represent Canada and they are performing a concert in Downtown Disney Florida! So it’s kind of a big deal! And yes, we’re bringing the camera along – so stay tuned for another travel episode!
This trip has been a year in the making and it’s pretty much ALL we talk about at dinner time… and lunch time… and in between homework time…etc. etc.
The only thing is we’ve never been to Disney and have no idea what to expect, we’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything to do there. Do any of you have any “must see” suggestions? We’ve got 3 days at Disney, and 1 day at The Wonderful World of Harry Potter (another thing we’re slightly obsessed about – we’ve only been talking about that every dinnertime since 2007!) So, any of your thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Well, Paul seems to be “actually” asleep now, and the snoring has subsided, so I think I’ll sneak back into bed – very carefully, because I don’t want him to roll over and start back up all over again. I hate when that happens.
Take care,
Tegan
